Chatting

Talk to Atlas

You can talk to Atlas out loud and hear it answer, instead of typing.

Start talking

In the chat box, between the model name and the send arrow, is a microphone with a voice's name on it. Press it and start speaking. On a Mac, the system asks once for permission to use the microphone.

You can also press the small microphone on any chat under Recents to talk in that chat.

While you are talking

A moving wave and a Stop voice button show in the left menu.

  • Press Stop voice to end the conversation.
  • After about a minute of quiet, the voice goes to sleep and the button becomes Resume voice.
  • What is said is written into the chat, so you can read it back later.
  • While the voice is on, the chat does not jump to the newest message by itself. Scroll it yourself.
  • You can still type. What you type is passed to the voice, and it answers out loud.

Letting the voice press things

The voice can work the app for you: open a project, switch a tab, press a button. When it wants to, it asks first, with Decline and Allow.

To change that, go to Model settings and set When the voice needs to press something to Ask for permission (the default) or Fully auto.

Choose a voice

Press the small arrow next to the microphone. A window opens where you pick:

  • the voice model: Atlas voice is included with your account. ChatGPT voice uses your ChatGPT sign in. The others use your own OpenAI key, or a voice model you added yourself.
  • the voice actor. Press one to hear a sample.
  • the language.

Press Use this voice. To set the one every new conversation starts with, use Default voice and Voice actor in Model settings.
